The Arizona Cardinals are officially out of the running for Peyton Manning.
The team had until 4 p.m. Friday to decide whether to release Kevin kolb or pay the former Eagle his $7 million roster bonus. Needless to say, kolb will remain a Cardinal and could, despite his comparatively hefty salary, compete in a training camp competition with backup John Skelton for the starting job in Arizona.

Ken Whisenhunt's comments on his team's future at quarterback via
: “Regarding today’s developments and our quarterback position, acquiring Peyton Manning is no longer an option for us.
“Since the end of last season we made it very clear that our plan was to head into 2012 with Kevin kolb and John Skelton, let the process play out and -- like at every position -- go with the quarterback who gives us the best chance to win."

Less than Burfict
Things are getting worse for Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict.
After a horrendous showing at the NFL Combine, in which posted a 40-yard dash time of more than five-seconds, Burfict also bombed his Pro Day.

ProFootballTalk
offers the following report from SI.com's Tony Pauline: "Burfict was
'not good in position drills' at the Sun Devils’ Friday workout, and
Pauline acknowledged that he’s 'watering that down.' One scout told
Pauline he 'actually felt bad for Burfict.'"
Once thought to be a potential first round draft, PFT is now speculating that Burfict "may struggle to be drafted at all in April."

Off the market
If the Eagles were interested in signing an extra safety, there's one less available option.
The Chicago Tribune's
Vaughn McClure tweeted Friday that the Chicago Bears have re-signed Craig Steltz to a two-year contract.
Steltz is expected to back up starters Chris Conte and Major Wright, while he contributes on special teams. The terms of the deal have not been disclosed
