The Causes of Bacne

Many people have back acne, or bacne. And they often struggle not only to get rid of it, but to understand it as well. They struggle to identify where it comes from and why they have it. What, then, are the causes of bacne? And are the causes of bacne any different than those of any other acne - facial acne, for instance?
Even though it is often referred to as bacne, as if it were at all different from any other type of acne, really, bacne is essentially the same, and so its causes are the same as well. Bacne, then, is no more mysterious than the acne types others might already be familiar with, whether body acne, or facial acne. Because, like any acne, bacne is the consequence of clogged pores and inflamed skin. This inflammation, of course, is the recognizable acne, or (in this case) bacne.
The pores of the skin become clogged as a result of the over-production of sebum, an oily substance produced when the sebaceous glands of the skin make far more than is necessary or healthy for the skin. This usually happens in adolescence, the teen years characterized by changing hormonal levels that have wide-ranging effects on the body. This is completely normal, of course, and the exact degree to which this happens in any given person varies from person to person, teen to teen. Some, then, have little to no acne, and therefore no bacne. Others, however, have far more.
But how does it happen, though?
Well, the pores of the skin, filled with excessive oily sebum, trap loose dead cells of skin, further clogging the pores. These pores, clogged and unclean, attract bacteria. This bacteria, called Propionibacterium acnes scientifically, is the agent that causes the actual inflammation of the skin and the resulting whiteheads, blackheads, or whatever form the bacne takes. These lesions on the skin (including papules, infected pustules, or nodules) are the red, swollen areas of the skin that are so plainly visible as bacne.
What makes back acne so especially tough to treat is that there exists far more sebaceous glands in the back than in any other area of the body. And worse yet, the skin of the back is thicker as well, making it much more difficult to treat acne buried far beneath the surface. It makes it harder to clean and maintain the pores. These are the causes of bacne.
