Why Older Women Suffer Hair Loss

It's an interesting phenomenon that as men age, they begin to lose their hair, and generally society accepts it as a part of being a man. Women, on the other hand, lose their sense of femininity when their hair begins to thin and fall out.
For women, the loss of their beautiful tresses can be a devastating experience they are not prepared for. Sometimes hair loss is simply a genetic trait passed on through ancestry. It can also be a result of illness, since your body will divert all available nutrients to fight the illness. Sometimes, it's just a change in eating patterns or improper diet that makes hair lose its thickness and strength.
For many women, however, the loss of hair accompanies menopause.
When women go through the change of life, their hormones are thrown off balance along with their internal regulators. Along with the controls for body temperature, emotions and appetites, hair growth can be affected.
Hair naturally falls out every day and it's perfectly normal. Thinning or lost hair is usually a result of new hair not growing to replace the lost ones. This can happen during menopause leaving older women with thin spots and balding areas of the scalp.
Fortunately, there are ways women can overcome this problem.
One way to camouflage hair loss is with the use of synthetic or natural hair wigs. They are available in an array of styles and colours and look just as real as natural hair. You can also talk to your doctor about supplements or medications that can stimulate the hair follicles for hair regrowth.
Quite often, menopausal women take hormone balancing medications that put their internal controls back in order. This type of treatment will often regenerate hair growth and alleviate the problem. There are also non-chemical natural remedies available at many health food and organic specialty stores which promote natural hair growth.
Growing older is an inevitability. However, that doesn't mean you have to accept the side effects that come with age, such as losing your beautiful hair.
