The fact that for many years the center of the specialists engaged in detailed study of chronic migraines, the main cause of which is irritating the trigeminal facial nerve. And if until recently the only way to get rid of temporary exhausting headaches was freezing the muscles, surgeons now believe that migraines can be cured by complete removal of the mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of pain.
In an experiment conducted by experts, was attended by 75 volunteers, 49 of which have passed all the necessary procedures to remove the trigeminal facial nerve, and the rest were exposed to the placebo effect. In this actions of surgeons in both cases resembled ordinary plastic tightening skin. A year later, 83 percent of patients in the first group reported a significant decrease in the intensity of headaches, and 57 per cent - a complete deliverance from migraines. In turn, in the placebo group, similar results were observed only 4 percent of cases.
The researchers believe their discovery confirms the use of plastic and reconstructive surgery to help people who suffer from chronic migraines.
