A new study by scientists: it can cause a pseudo-asthma
It is known that chlorinated water in swimming pools can cause skin allergy - dermatitis. This is understandable, it dries the skin, bleach can also cause inflammation in the damaged areas - for cuts and minor wounds.
But it turns out, is dangerous chlorinated water can be not only for the leather, but also for ... lungs. At this time, the scientists decided to look more closely at this indoor swimming pools, according to Reuters.
French and Canadian experts surveyed hundreds of professional swimmers. And it turned out that those long training in indoor swimming pools with chlorinated water in the tissues of the lungs revealed changes. Moreover, these violations were suspiciously similar to the ones that are usually in asthmatics.
As the author of the study, Valerie Bug of the Lille University of Law and Public Health, in the lung samples of swimmers found six times more antibodies than healthy people.
At the same tests on the lung function of asthmatic symptoms is not identified. That is, athletes do not suffer shortness of breath and not feel shortness of breath.
Sally Wenzel, pulmonologist at the University of Pittsburgh believes that the identified changes do not necessarily lead to asthma in a pure form, ie as an immune disease. But the volatile compounds in closed basins, the body makes a person more sensitive to allergens. It is not surprising that most of the swimmers - the study participants suffered from at least one type of allergy.
