Everyone wants to have beautiful hair flowing with life. We pamper and take good care of it to keep its glory. Yet, no matter how we try, there are circumstances beyond our grasp that diminish its beauty and allure.
Without even knowing, there are other elements that we need to avoid to prevent hair loss. Yes, your diet plays an important role in keeping up the general health of the body and the hair. A healthy balanced diet, with vitamins and minerals, can help aid in fighting baldness problems.
However, there are also certain foods which should be avoided because they contain elements and chemicals which can further trigger the onslaught of baldness. In fact, these foods do not contain nutritional values and are not capable of helping in stimulating healthy hair growth.
The following are some of them:
Processed foods. Too much intake of processed foods (canned goods and junk foods) which do not contain nutritional value should be avoided. The easiest way to get absorbable vitamins and minerals that are needed for hair regrowth is by eating green leafy vegetables, nutritious fruits and meats.
Sodas and alcoholic beverages. These are often filled with sugar and other unhealthy additives that could potentially cause hair loss. An alcoholic drink which is a diuretic may cause dehydration in the body, hence making the hair dull, dry and brittle.
Too much sugar and other sweeteners. Consuming too much sugar lessens nutrients and raises adrenal levels in the body, thereby increasing the production of hormones like dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is responsible for 95 percent of hair loss. In addition, sugar is also known for slowing down the ability of the body to handle stress. We all know that stress is a triggering factor of hair loss. Hence, minimizing the intake of these foods to avoid stress-induced hair loss is a good move. Moreover, eating complex carbohydrates and fibrous foods like bananas and beans may help in hair regrowth since they carry nutrients to the blood stream and the hair follicles.
Too much salt. Too much intake of salt may contribute to hair loss. Hence, avoiding the use of too much monosodium glutamate or MSG (a food enhancer) is helpful in hair loss prevention. Sea salt can be used as a very convenient alternative to replace MSG in your recipes.
Too much saturated fat. Foods rich in saturated fats may increase DHT levels, hence causing hair loss. To prevent hair loss, it is important to limit the amount of saturated fats in your diet. In addition, never use hydrogenated oil or partially hydrogenated oil in cooking because they are trans fats. Trans fats can cause heart disease, weight gain and other problems like hair loss. Fried foods or food items which are high in cholesterol should also be avoided to prevent hair loss.
Sucralose. Sucralose (trade name: Splenda) is a man-made, unnatural and artificial food enhancer which causes problems like increase in appetite, depression and allergies that may trigger the onslaught of hair loss.
Aspartame. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free food items. The FDA believes that it may cause hair loss and thinning of hair. This may also cause other medical conditions like arthritis, depression, impotency and sexual problems.
Too much carbohydrate. You also need to avoid eating foods rich with carbohydrates, such as rice, pasta, and potatoes. Carbohydrates when converted to glucose during the digestion process may raise the blood sugar level of the body. Hence, cutting down your blood sugar level is one of the best hair loss prevention methods you can undertake.
